DIRECTOR (LITIGATION AND CRISIS COMMS)

A leading strategic communications consultancy is looking for a Director, Litigation and Crisis Comms to join its London team. This is a senior, client-facing role for an experienced adviser who can lead complex, high-pressure briefs, build trusted relationships at the top table, and guide clients through sensitive litigation, issues and crisis situations with calm judgement.

You’ll lead key accounts, mentor and develop teams, and play an active role in business development — bringing smart, expansive thinking to every challenge, with a strong understanding of the UK media landscape and how reputations are shaped in real time.

The role

  • Lead and manage client accounts, ensuring consistently high-quality delivery and client satisfaction.

  • Provide strategic counsel on litigation, issues and crisis communications, advising senior stakeholders through sensitive, fast-moving situations.

  • Work collaboratively across corporate communications, crisis management and public affairs to deliver integrated outcomes.

  • Lead teams, support development and performance management, and contribute to a strong, inclusive team culture.

  • Play a visible role in growing the practice through new business, pitches and cross-selling.

Key responsibilities

  • Leading and managing client accounts, ensuring high-quality work and client satisfaction

  • Acting as a trusted strategic adviser to clients, managing complex issues and sensitive communications

  • Leading responses to issues, crises and litigation-related communications, with strong media judgement

  • Developing, mentoring and leading high-performing teams (feedback, coaching and performance support)

  • Collaborating across disciplines to strengthen client outcomes and promote a culture of partnership

  • Supporting organisational initiatives, training and the development of team members

  • Leading client presentations, new business pitches and driving organic growth/cross-selling

  • Proactively identifying and resolving client challenges to support retention

  • Developing and executing strategic communications campaigns with a strong understanding of the media landscape

  • Cultivating and maintaining a network of media and broader stakeholder contacts; managing enquiries and emerging issues

  • Advising clients on media trends and digital strategy, with a pragmatic, outcomes-led approach

  • Leading business development initiatives, including new business workstreams, fee negotiations and marketing activity

  • Improving efficiency in account practices, including smart use of AI tools and other technologies

  • Representing the organisation at industry events and maintaining a strong external network

  • Encouraging continuous learning and development within the team, sharing insights and leading brainstorming sessions

  • Supporting the Management Board and participating in committees/working groups as required

  • Supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives and contributing to an equitable, positive working environment

  • Completing weekly timesheets in Float to support project tracking, efficiency and client servicing

Candidate specification

  • Proven experience in litigation and crisis communications, with an innate understanding of the media landscape

  • Wide-ranging experience advising clients through issues and crisis management, including sensitive media relations matters

  • Strong leadership skills and a collaborative approach to account management; an inspiring person to work with

  • Confident strategic adviser with sound judgement and the ability to think creatively under pressure

  • Strong relationships with media and broader stakeholder contacts

  • Commercial mindset: business development, client retention and operational efficiency

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Package

  • Salary: £90k - 105K
